This is a place to find spiritual and physical rest -- as well as outdoor adventures. You can swim, boat, or fish in private Lake Murphy, walk trails, play volleyball, pick raspberries, watch wildlife, or take a hot sauna. In the winter, cross-country skis, snowshoes, and ice skates are available.

Our Wilderness North facilities consists of a main log lodge with a loft library, meeting room and dining area; a shower/sauna house, the Olson & Sonstegard suites in the Evergreen Lodge (mentor lodge), eighteen  individual log cabins, and a waterfront area.

Our facilities can be rented for your own group retreat,  family retreat, or personal solitude retreat!

Lodging Style and Amenities

18 private log cabins are available for singles or couples; each has either a full-size bed or 2 twin beds.  The cabins are simply furnished with log beds, wood stove, desk, rocking chair and furnace. The cabins are nestled on a wooded ridge overlooking the lake.  Two suites are also available for use.  Located near the lodge, each of these cozy suites has a family room, futon, kitchenette, full bath, and full-size log bed.  A large wrap-around deck with Adirondack chairs provide a lovely place to view the lake.

Recreational Opportunities

Enjoy canoeiing, sailing, kayaking, fishing, and swimming in Private Lake Murphy, or take a long hike along the trails that wind through the woods.  Groups can utilize the volleyball court or the lakeside campfire ring.  In winter, cross-country ski, ice skating and snowshoe equipment are available for our use.

Driving Directions

Wilderness North is ideally situated on a private lake, just one hour north of Duluth, Minnesota.  There are no houses, no motorized boats, and no traffic to distract from the stillness of the woods.  Yet for those who are interested in taking advantage of the area, outdoor amenities abound!  The Northern Shore of Lake Superior, the Boundary Waters Canoe Area, state parks, national hiking trails, Split Rock Lighthouse, Giant's Ridge Golf Course, and downhill and cross country ski areas are all within an hour's drive.
