Northern Waters Smokehaus is a unique gourmet specialty market and eatery located on Lake Superior in Duluth, Minnesota. They are just as committed to using local, sustainably raised meats and fish as they are to hosting plenty of friendly food conversation. The eclectic little shop is filled with smoked fish, handcrafted smoked meats, artisan salami, and unique deli sandwiches.
The Smokehaus has been featured in "Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives" and their wares have been lauded in many publications, most recently The Minneapolis Star Tribune and Lake Superior Flavors.
Smoked fish and meat preservation is a very old tradition around Lake Superior, and the Smokehaus expands on the area's history by updating recipes and utilizing unique flavors to create innovative products. They are inspired both by the diversity of the area's culture and the expanding global connectivity in today's culinary landscape.
The deli at Northern Waters Smokehaus is located just a stone's throw from Lake Superior, and many customers grab sandwiches and smoked fish to-go and picnic on the Lake's banks.
Going to the Boundary Waters or Quetico? Taking a multi-day hike? Northern Waters Smokehaus has several types of dry cured sausages that are shelf stable and taste great, even late in the trip.

Committed to using local, sustainably raised meats and fish, including fish from Lake Superior that are harvested under careful regulation, as well as local produce from Victus Farms (Silver Bay, MN) and Bay Produce (Superior, WI). Meats come from a collective in Southern MN; Pequot Lakes, MN; Wrenshall, MN; and various ND locations.
As of 2014, NWSH has eliminated plastic shopping bags and uses biodegradable materials for all catering/take-out.
Sandwich delivery is available by bicycle.
Uses recyclable, eco-friendly packaging whenever possible.

Eric Goerdt owns and operates Northern Waters Smokehaus. He, his wife Lynn, and their three sons live in Duluth. Originally from Iowa, where he learned traditional Midwestern cooking and sausage making, he honed his fish skills in Sitka, Alaska while in the Coast Guard before the Goerdts moved to Duluth.
Eric is committed to paying his employees a living wage and offers yearly dividends along with paid vacation and sick time. As a result, the average employee at Northern Waters Smokehaus has been employed there for several years.
Northern Waters Smokehaus is in the Dewitt Seitz Building in Duluth's Canal Park. The building is accessible.
