Koochiching County Historical Society / Koochiching Museums

The Koochiching County Historical Society maintains a large and important collection of artifacts and historical materials relating to Koochiching County, north central Minnesota and the southern border region of northwestern Ontario.

Our Museum Galleries feature 10,000 years of Borderland history.  Exhibits document the northern Minnesota region including Native history and culture, European settlement, and the exploitation of natural resources through the fur trade to modern forestry.

The Bronko Nagurski Museum is a lasting tribute to this 1930's sports legend.  This is this only museum in America dedicated to this All American Minnesota Gopher and NFL Hall of Famer Chicago Bear.

As any sportsperson knows, Bronko Nagurski may have been the greatest football player of all time.

Michael Thomas Cullen died on Friday the 19th May 2017. A very long obituary (with a few errors) and an obituary in the Mpls=St Paul Star Tribune might guide you. He grew up in a log cabin in Dentaybow township, child of John and Bridget Cullen, immigrants from Ireland. They moved to the north woods in 1908,, welcomed by 2 brothers of Bridget, Ed and Mike Parsons. They all homesteaded and logged. Mike grew to prominence in the state and was a founding member of the Willmar Area Voc-Tech school, directing it for over 20 years.. If you are interested in a story, read the obits, and I can give you the family contact information I am a niece of Mike. My mom was Ellen Cullen Adams, born in 1902 in Chicago.
