Embarrass is a quiet community located in the heart of Iron Ore country. French voyaguers used the term embarrars for debris that blocked their path down the river. Riviere aux Embarras appears on voyageur maps as early as the 1820s. The topography predisposes it to unusual cold even in summer, but winter temperatures have reached -64 degrees (2/2/96) and -54 (1/17/05) giving Embarrass the right to be called the cold spot of the nation.
