The Mesabi Trail is a paved biking/walking trail stretching from the Mississippi River (Grand Rapids) to the Boundary Waters (Ely). Currently 135 miles of trail are complete, when finished in 3 to 5 years there will be over 155 miles of trail.
The ride on Sept 21st will be an out and back route - starting at Giants Ridge Recreation Area and following one of the most beautiful (and newest) sections of the Mesabi Trail, including a 3/4 mile long floating bridge crossing the Embarrass Wetland Complex, former wild rice paddies converted into the Darwin Meyer State Wildlife Management Area, and crossing the circa 1927 rehabilitated wooden Embarrass River Bridge. If riders choose, at the turn around point in Embarrass, there will be a presentation on the history of the area.
