Food or Drink | Cafe, Deli, Coffee House or Bakery
I like to get my coffee here. Ann and her folks serve up a fine coffee and just about everyone in town will be in there at some point so it is a good place to meet.

"Where everybody knows your name" or in our case at Java Moose, "where the baristas know your coffee drink." Perfectly situated in downtown Grand Marais, MN, we welcome each customer as an old friend. Once you are part of the Java Moose family,…

Gunflint Trail Scenic Byway
Outdoor Adventure | Scenic Drive
Drive up the Gunflint. I've always said it's the Wild Kingdom up there. Frequent sitings of moose, wolves, foxes and even bears...so drive carefully.

A National Scenic Byway, the Gunflint Trail begins in picturesque Grand Marais, MN, and travels 57 miles to Saganaga Lake on the MN/Ontario border.  The route is surrounded by the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness.  The roadway began as a…

Caribou Rock Trail
Outdoor Adventure | Hiking Trail or Trailhead
Do a short hop up to this very scenic overlook on Bearskin Lake or go much farther into the BWCA Wilderness and on to Rose Falls. That's a stout trek but it offers nice views of the BWCA and Canada and you won't find a whole lot of people hiking past Caribou Rock.

The Caribou Rock Trail is a scenic 1.5 - 7 mile hike located off the Gunflint Trail in the Superior National Forest.  The trailhead is on the Hungry Jack Lake Road.  The first 3/4 of a mile takes you to an overlook of West Bearskin lake. …

Pigeon River High Falls at Grand Portage State Park
Natural Area | Lake, River, or Waterfall
The drive from Grand Marais is lovely. If the weather isn't you can just head over to the Grand Portage National Monument and learn about the rich history of this place. This area was the center of the largest industry on the continent for 200 years, and yes, it was based on fashion - the Fur Trade.

Torrents of wild water plummet 120 feet over the High Falls of the Pigeon River on the U.S. - Canadian border. Visitors of all abilities can take a one-half mile trail and boardwalk to the falls overlook area. Three viewing decks provide various…

Comments

This is only a small sample of what there is to see and do around the Grand Marais/Gunflint Trail area. You can get completely off the grid for days or stay within the day trip zone. Something for everyone all with the fresh pine scented air in your lungs. I've lived and worked in the area for years and while not based here now, my family and I are no strangers to the trails and community.
