Assist the Superior Hiking Trail Association with trail construction and maintenance on hiking trails in the Duluth, MN area this June! Volunteer work events are being held at various locations around the city in June 2016, with options available during the days or evening. Join one event, or join them all! Have fun, get some exercise, learn a new skill, and help one of Minnesota's premier trails get ready for summer visitors. #### Types of Volunteer Work Needed Brewer Loop Trail Construction Tues. 6/21/16 Superior Hiking Trail Duration: 9 am – 3 pm Duluth, MN Difficulty: Moderate to Difficult 20 volunteers needed Individuals or Small Groups Help construct hiking trail. Meet at the Haines Road parking lot. Directions: On I-35, take 40th Ave (Haines Road) Exit #253B, go north (uphill) 1.7 miles to SHT parking lot on right. Trail Clearing Thurs. 6/23/16 Superior Hiking Trail Duration: 9 am – 3 pm Brewer Park, Duluth, MN Difficulty: Moderate to Difficult 8 volunteers needed Individuals or Small Groups Operate weed whips, or lop branches and carry fuel Meet at Trailhead at Skyline Parkway & Highland St. Directions:1) From the south, take I-35 Boundary Ave. Exit #249. Turn left, cross bridge, then take right onto Skyline Parkway. Drive 2.4 miles to trailhead at intersection of Skyline Parkway and Highland Street. Turn right on Skyline Parkway and then turn right into parking lot. 2) From the north, take I-35 Central Ave Exit #252. Turn right and go 0.8 miles uphill on Central Ave. Turn left on Highland St. and go 1.1 miles to intersection of Skyline Parkway. Turn right on Skyline Parkway and turn right into parking lot. Trail Construction Thurs. evening 6/23/16 Hartley Nature Center Duration: 5:30 pm – 9:00 pm Duluth, MN Difficulty: Moderate to Difficult 20 volunteers needed Individuals or Small groups Min. Age: 16 Help construct a detour on a hiking trail. Meet at the end of Fairmont Street. Directions: From I-35, take 21st Ave East Exit #258. Turn left on 21st Ave E and go 0.7 miles up hill. Turn right on Woodland Ave and go 2.0 miles. Turn left on Fairmont Street and drive to parking area at end of street. Trail Construction/Material Hauling Tues. 6/28/16 Superior Hiking Trail Duration: 9 am – 3 pm Brewer Park area, Duluth, MN Difficulty: Moderate to Difficult 20 volunteers needed Individuals or Small Groups Min. Age: 16 Construct boardwalk and puncheon; haul in material. Meet at the Haines Road parking lot. Directions: On I-35, take 40th Ave (Haines Road) Exit #253B, go north (uphill) 1.7 miles to SHT parking lot on right. Age: 16 Operate weed whips, or lop branches & carry fuel Meet at Grand Ave Chalet of Spirit Mountain. Directions: Coming from the south: On 1-35, take the Cody St exit, (Exit 251A). Continue on Cody St for 0.3 miles, turn right on N 63rd Ave W and go 0.6 miles, turn right on Grand Ave and go 1.8 miles to Spirit Mountain Chalet on right. Coming from the north: Take Grand Ave /Hwy 23 (Exit 251B) and go approximately 2 miles to Spirit Mountain Chalet on right. #### Appropriate Ages for Volunteer Opportunity 16 years & up #### Special Skills that May be Required or Helpful All tools,training, and safety equipment is provided. What to bring: lunch, water for the day, insect repellent, sturdy shoes or boots, and gloves if you have them Dress for the weather.
