Winter in Quetico Provincial Park

Known for it's unparalleled canoeing opportunities Quetico is rarely thought about for winter recreation, but for the few that will venture there, they will find an enchanting winter wonderland and an exceptional way to see a different face of canoe country. The Dawson Trail Campground has a variety of ski and snowshoe trails that are maintained in the winter and overnight accommodations such as a converted cabin art studio, a log cabin (former nature centre) and most recently the Ojibwa Cabin on the shore of French Lake. All accommodations allow the visitor to ski or snowshoe from their doorstep and return to a warm shelter and a bed off the ground. The Log cabin has parking at your door, the artist residence is a 3 min walk and the Ojibwa cabin requires a 3 km ski or snowshoe trek on groomed trails.

Quetico is a true gem in Ontario's provincial park system and in the winter it truly showcases it's pristine quiet nature. It is an excellent time of year for wildlife viewing and birding. Quetico hosts two ski tours, the Sawmill Lake Classic in January  and the Cross Quetico Lakes Tour in March. As well there is an annual event that focuses on winter outdoor recreation with a day of mixed winter activities. When the lakes freeze over the canoe routes become ski and snowshoe pathways to the back-country.

Know your ice conditions before travelling, have fun, play safe.
