Photography Workshops and Classes (backside)

Winter

  • Badlands National Park in Wall, South Dakota – It’s hard to describe how otherworldly the Badlands are, but think jagged spires made from layers of color. The crowds stay away in the winter months and that leaves the park to us. (3 days)
  • Lake Superior Winter Photography Workshop – A combination of all-day golden light, sea fog and ice make Lake Superior the premier winter photography destination in the Midwest. (February and March, 3 days)

Spring

  • Neal Smith Wildlife Refuge Photography Workshop in Des Moines, Iowa – Bison, elk, tall grass prairie, oak savannas and sedge meadows are the backdrop to kick off the spring. (April, 2 days)
  • North Shore Spring Waterfall Photography Workshop – When the snowpack melts on the north shore it thunders through narrow canyons and over waterfalls on a plunge to Lake Superior. (April and May, 3 days)
  • Wildflower Photography Workshop – Timed to hit the flower explosion on the north shore. (June, 1 day)

Summer

  • Lake Superior Kayak Photography Workshop – Explore the shore by kayak, visit sea caves, towering cliffs and learn to photograph from a kayak. (June, 3 days)
  • Northern Night Skies: Night Photography Workshop – The area surrounding Grand Marais has little light pollution; the Milky Way seems to jump out of the sky. Learn how to photograph the night sky and make the images pop in the digital darkroom. (August , 5 days)

Fall

  • North Shore Fall Photography Workshop – Capture images of the fiery reds and yellows of fall and the dramatic Lake Superior shoreline during this workshop. (September, 5 days)
  • Great Smoky Mountain National Park Workshop in Gatlinburg, Tennessee – In fall, color saturates the streams and peaks of the Smoky Mountains. If you love mountains and waterfalls, this workshop is for you. (October, 3 days)
  • October Skies: Night Photography Workshop – One night packed of shooting the stars or light painting and learning. (October, 1 day)
  • Gales of November Photography Workshop – November provides the best chance of photographing the inland sea showing off its explosive nature. Planned on the statistically stormiest weekend of the year. (November, 3 days)

All Year Long

  • One-on-one Photography Workshops – The lesson is created to address what you need to learn and the one-on-one helps you learn quickly. (1/2 or full days)
  • Private Small Group Workshops – Great for photography clubs that want to book time on the north shore. (1/2, 1 or 3 days)
